Hi! I am Pooja Chopra, a Punjabi Girl, selected as an intern (batch 2014-2016) in ThoughtWorks. This blog's aim is to help new comers who want to become part of STEP (Software Technology Excellence Program).This blog teach about various stages involved in STEP selection process.

Here, I am going to share my personal experience. I got heard about ThoughtWorks in my college campus (GPCG Patiala) when STEP Advisor (Mr. Ganesh) visit at campus to give us seminar regarding STEP. I am very passionate about attending seminars and ThoughtWorks is passionate about programming, it seems to be very interesting opportunity to work in their culture. STEP is a 2-yr  internship program (means "work while you study"). Any polytechnic diploma holder or final year student of Computer/IT trade is eligible for it. In the seminar a lots of information (almost about every important aspect )about STEP is described briefly and anyone can feel free to ask about any query.

Note- I recommend students to attend seminar because if you ignore this ,you will remain unaware of the opportunities offered.

My Steps toward STEP

Step 1) Registration Form

My first step towards STEP is to visit on STEP website www.thoughtworks.com/STEP here I fill up a small registration form online, it require just basic information your

·        Email ID(because all future communications with company are through email, so provide correct and active email id)

·        Telephone No.

·        Curriculum Vitae (keep copy of it while filling form)

·        and some other personal information 

After some days, they were send me detailed application form through email.

Step 2) Detailed Application Form

Filling of Detailed Application Form online require more concentration because there were strict validations and one time submission is allowed means once the form is submitted to server we can't get it again. I recommend to fill form  as soon as possible because as last date come near the load on server increases day by day.   

Step 3) Online Aptitude Test

After some days I received admit card for online test through email. Online Test is to test verbal, logical and quantitative reasoning of candidates.

A person can easily pass through it by  referring to aptitude papers available on Internet some popular are- www.freshersworld.com , www.indiabix.com etc and it is good to refer aptitude books by R.S. Aggrwal

Main point during exam is to consider time important and time management is the key to success. It is important to pass cut-off of all the three reasoning Commonly students fails in time management.

Step 4) Group Discussion and Personal Interview

"A very cool and hyper less environment" is the speciality of ThoughtWorks Interview . GD & PI usually held up in their office branch . The key to crack these is that only perform according to their expectation- What they want? They don't  want a candidate to be topper with high percentage mark sheet or high profile English speaking skills, they only want a candidates -who are willing to learn?, having general understanding of problem solving and logical thinking.

               During the group discussion, they just  give you a very simple topic to discuss (not very hard ). They just want to check whether a candidate have that much ability to understand and somewhat able to talk in English. This is no elimination round. Try to speak out your opinions don't be quite all the time. Please don't make discussion a debate.

               During personal interview a group of 2-4 ThoughtWorkers interviewed me. Don't be panic. They just want to check your behaviour through questioning , logic solving ability by putting some simple programs like -Fibonacci Series, addition of n natural nos., factorial etc using recursion. Please don't cram programs. And they can ask you anything which comes in their mind on that time- any game , any question, any mathematical problem, or simply about yourself. So be prepared for that.

               And one more thing they can call you again for personal interview if want to again evaluate your performance. So think that a very good chance for you to perform best again.   

Step 5)  Selection

A very suspensive step .They give results through email so carry on checking mail daily .
